Living with Parkinson’s can be challenging, but it also offers unique opportunities to express strength, creativity, and connection.

You might find that creating art eases your symptoms, or that your experience of Parkinson’s leads you to create artwork that’s unique and special.

The Parkinson’s Australia Art Prize is a chance for delegates attending the Parkinson’s Australia National Conference to share their journey through art. Showcase your talents, connect with others, and inspire the world with your creativity!

How to Enter

Respond to the theme ‘connection’ – however feels right to you. There is no right or wrong – the limit is your own imagination.

If you need help to get started, try these prompts:

  • How many types of “connection” can you think of? List them.
    Which meaning do you connect with?
  • When have you felt connected – is there a story that comes to mind?
  • What does connection feel like? Does it have a shape, a colour, a texture?

Your artwork can be of any size, in any static medium, for example:
Painting, Drawing, Comic Strip, Sculpture, Ceramic, Collage, Textile, Craft.

Entries will be judged using a photograph of your artwork. You won’t need to send us the original at any time (even if you’re selected as
a finalist).

If you can photograph it, you can enter it!

Prepare one photograph of your original artwork for entry.

If your artwork is 3-dimensional (eg, sculpture), you can prepare up to four photographs to show different angles.

To photograph your artwork you’ll need:

  • A smartphone (i-phone or android).
  • Your original artwork.
  • The FREE Snapseed App. You can download it to your smartphone from the iphone app store or google play store.
  • A place indoors with plenty of natural light.

If you need a support person to assist you, or to take the photograph for you – that’s fine As long as the original artwork is yours, it’s eligible to enter.

The best way to photograph your artwork depends on what kind of artwork you’re submitting.

If your original artwork is a photograph, simply prepare your original photograph in digital format (.jpg .jpeg .png .webp or .heif)

  • How did you feel while making this artwork?
  • How does the artwork relate to the ‘CONNECTIONS’ theme?
  • What do you hope for people seeing this artwork to feel?

The 2025 Parkinson’s Australia Conference Art Prize is open to all delegates with Parkinson’s or a Parkinson's Plus condition* regardless of age, background, ability, or experience.
