If you think you have symptoms of COVID-19, use the healthdirect COVID-19 Symptom and Antiviral Eligibility Checker which will help you understand your symptoms, what care you may need and if you are eligible for antiviral treatment.  The COVID-19 Symptom and Antiviral Eligibility Checker is available in 11 languages, including Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), English, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.  To date, the symptom checker has been used nearly 14 million times to help people get the care they need.

Covid-19 vaccine for people with Parkinson’s

As part of the Federal government roll out of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme, we have been notified that people with Parkinson’s are included in Phase 1b.  This phase will commence nationally from 22 March 2021.

The COVID-19 vaccine in not a live vaccine therefore there should be no concerns about interactions with Parkinson’s related medications.

Temporary telehealth options following COVID-19 restrictions

Over the months of March and April 2020, the Australian Government introduced measures to help reduce the risk of community transmission from COVID-19 and provide protection for patients and health care providers. The Australian Government has recognised that we will all need to actively manage our health during COVID-19, but that safety and social distancing/isolation requirements make attending face-to-face appointments more difficult. The COVIDSafe app speeds up contacting people exposed to coronavirus (COVID-19).  Downloading the app is something you can do to protect you, your family and friends and save the lives of other Australians.  The more Australians that connect to the COVIDSafe app, the quicker we can find the virus.

Changes to NDIS to help during COVID-19

  • The NDIS will temporarily increase price limits by 10 per cent for some critical supports.

  • Plans are being automatically extended to ensure you continue to have access to funding.

  • Three New Support Coordination Items under Core Supports, Assistance with Daily Life –you can use your funds more flexibly.

  • From 30 March, participants will be charged 100 per cent of the agreed support price if they cancel a service at short notice (up from 90 per cent) – you need to give 10 business days’ notice now.

  • Planning meetings will now need to be done via the phone – remind the planner up front you have Parkinson’s.
