Board Vacancy
The Parkinson's Australia Board is searching for an independent Board Member for a initial three year appointment commencing by November 2018. The Board is looking for the candidate to serve as a Board Member with a view to taking over the President’s position.

Parkinson’s Australia is the peak body representing the Parkinson’s community in Australia. The number of people living with Parkinson's in Australia in estimated to be in excess of 100,000.
​
Parkinson’s Australia is a federated body with seven state Board nominated members and three independent members. The new Board member will replace the current President who is stepping down.
​
The role of Parkinson’s Australia is national advocacy while essential community services are provided by the State member organisations with their own CEOs and Boards. The Strategic Goals of PA include:

To advocate for the interests of people affected by Parkinson’s in Australia.

To promote best practice models of service delivery so they are equally available for all people with Parkinson’s nation-wide recognising that the States have primary responsibility for service provision.

To increase awareness of Parkinson’s.

To increase support for and investment in research.

To be an effective and well-governed organisation.
The President will work with the Executive, PA Board members and PA Chief Executive Officer [CEO] to achieve the current objectives of increasing the number of Parkinson’s Nurse Specialists to support people living with Parkinson’s, increasing the investment in Parkinson’s research and upskilling the health workforce to better care for people living with Parkinson’s.
Essential requirements

Several years experience as a Board member, and ideally, 2 years minimum as Chairman

High level understanding of governance

High level corporate contacts to help Parkinson’s Australia build community awareness

NFP/Charity board experience

Graduate or Fellow of the Australian Institute of Directors or the Institute of Community Directors Australia
The Board meets four times a year. The anticipated time involvement is anticipated to be at least 12 hours per month on average taking into account attendance at Board meetings.
