| Trial Title | Treadmill-based gait adaptability: effects of ageing and Parkinson’s disease on brain activity |
|---|---|
| Describe the trial aims | Investigate how well people adapt their walking pattern under time constraints when walking on a treadmill and how it relates to brain activity. We hope to use the study data to reinforce our understanding of fall risk during walking. |
| Required eligibility to participate in the trial | – Are aged 18 years and older. – Are living independently in the community. – Are able to walk for 15 minutes consecutively without an aid. – Have no medical history of stroke, colour-blindness, cognitive impairment or any other diagnosis of a neurodegenerative or psychiatric condition. |
| Restrictions/ineligibility | – Being colour blind. – History of stroke or transient ischemic attacks (TIA) – Recent surgery that may affect your ability to walk or recover balance. – Excessive fear of falling, anxiety disorder or psychological distress that would prevent walking comfortably on a treadmill (please note that prior experience with walking on a treadmill is not required). |
| Date the trial is open from | 2026-02-02 |
| Date the trial closes | 2026-12-19 |
| Where the trial takes place | Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) |
| How can I get involved? | (i) Attending a one-off appointment (2hrs) at NeuRA, Randwick.
(ii) Completing health questionnaires and fall risk assessments. (iii) Wearing a cap fitted with external light-emitting sensors. (iv) Performing walking trials on a treadmill while fitted with a safety harness. |
