Investigation of neural correlates of the upper limb function of healthy subjects and people with Parkinson’s disease
Describe the trial aims:
- Examine the differences in upper limb function between people with and without Parkinson’s.
- Investigate the relationship between Parkinson’s motor symptoms and upper limb function.
- How different areas of the brain are being used to deal with motor impairment in healthy subjects and people with Parkinson’s.
Required eligibility to participate in the trial:
- Individuals diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease
- Healthy adults over the age of 18 years.
- n.b.*All participants must have no known upper limb impairment/injury that can impede upper limb performance.
Restrictions/ineligibility:
- Any known upper limb injury/impairment likely to interfere with upper limb functions
- Cognitive impairment (Montreal Cognitive Assessment score <21) that may preclude a participant from providing fully informed consent to enrolment
- Diagnosis of any Parkinsonism
Dates the trial is open: from April 2026 to November 2027
Where the trial takes place: University of New South Wales (UNSW) Lifestyle Clinic (Health Translation Hub), 38 Botany St, Randwick (corner of High Street and Botany Street in Randwick, NSW 2031)
