Due to pressure from organisations such as Parkinson’s Australia (click here to read our letter), the consultation period for the exposure draft of the aged care act has been extended.

The Department of Health and Aged Care have advised that the consultation period on the draft new Aged Care Act has been extended to Friday 8 March 2024, which originally opened on 14 December 2023.

Since then, they have heard from people who use aged care services, people who deliver these services and work in aged care, and people with an interest in the sector.  Many people have also asked for more time to review the draft Act and provide feedback on this important change to aged care.

In response, the Australian Government has extended the consultation period. This will give people more opportunity to contribute.  The new Act will impact everyone connected to aged care so it’s important that you get involved and have your say. You can:

Consultation closes at 7:00 pm (AEDT) on Friday 8 March 2024.

Parkinson’s Australia lodged a submission the day prior to the extension announcement however will review and submit a further one prior to the new deadline.
