This week Parkinson’s Australia is treading the corridors of Parliament House in Canberra.

A series of meetings are being held this week with various Federal MPs and Senators by Olivia Nassaris, Vice President and Board Member of Parkinson’s Australia, and Jeff Smart, a person with Parkinson’s and a member of Parkinson’s ACT. Together they are proving to be a dynamic team!

The primary purpose for this round of meetings is to gain support for our pre-budget submission where we are seeking funding for a national awareness campaign for Parkinson’s and a campaign & education program to upskill as many general practitioners as possible with the essential medical knowledge required to help and understand patients who present to them with early symptoms or signs of Parkinson’s.

We are also using this as an opportunity to invite each parliamentarian to join the Parliamentary Friends of Parkinson’s group, which is a non-partisan forum for parliamentarians to meet and interact with Parkinson’s Australia and its stakeholders on matters of concern relating to the Parkinson’s community.
